B Class
Restyled extensively for 2012, the new Mercedes B Class brings a new look and feel to the Sports Tourer category.
Performance
Sportily styled, there are two petrol engines, each at 1.6 litres, whilst the two diesels are both 1.8 litres. Both options deliver exceptional performance with the introduction of the 7G-DCT dual clutch automatic transmission, whilst a six speed manual is also available.
The new B Class offers superior handling, with a lower ride height and bigger dimensions, affording very much a saloon feel to the class. With a multi-link rear suspension, a smooth and agile ride is possible, whatever the road condition.
Quality and kit
The interior is typically Mercedes, with quality of material and precise engineering delivering a comfortable, welcoming and spacious cabin. Noise is kept to a minimum, despite the large windows which afford excellent visibility, whilst a spacious boot provides enough room for any use.
Through the COMAND control, connectivity options are numerous including voice controlled internet access. An excellent stereo provides entertainment through the journey, whilst the dash layout and high screen lends itself to a logical and simple approach.
Safety & security
There are airbags throughout, whilst the B Class has also been given the innovative and market leading radar collision avoidance system, and the Pre-Safe system, which closes windows, tenses belts and adjusts front seats in the event of imminent impact.
Active headlamps, blind spot, lane keeping and active parking assist systems are also included. Along with the standard alarm systems and immobilisers, the security and safety options are the widest ranging of all competitors.
The new B Class is a wonderful family car for the growing brood, with comfort and a welcoming turn of pace when required, alongside reduced emissions and fuel consumption.
